EAST-West Management Institute

The East-West Management Institute (EWMI) works to strengthen democratic societies by bringing together government, civil society and the private sector to build accountable, capable and transparent institutions and solve problems.  Founded in 1988, EWMI operates through partnerships, grants and contracts with bi-lateral and multi-lateral donors, support from private foundations, as well as its own initiatives. EWMI concentrates on developing local institutions that are accountable, capable, transparent and thus able to fulfill their mandates long after donors depart. EWMI's success is based on almost 30 years of pragmatic field experience in over 30 countries, and the understanding that each local context is unique.

EWMI has modeled information collection and analysis in Cambodia and he Mekong, leading to the development of Open Development Mekong (ODM) and the flagship site Open Development Cambodia (ODC), which together with Open Development LaosOpen Development VietnamOpen Development Thailand and Open Development Myanmar we refer to as the OD platform or OD Mekong, which aims to provide a roadmap to critical development issues, thereby informing the public and equipping citizens with the data needed to better understand the social and environmental impact of development on their communities and environment.
